Will Elon Musk visit Mars in his lifetime?
I put this at 16%. A Mars visit by Elon Musk is unlikely, but it is not a long-shot fantasy given his resources, intent, and the open-ended time horizon.
Analysis
The core issue is not whether Mars becomes reachable in the abstract, but whether Elon Musk personally makes the trip before 2099. Musk is wealthy enough, influential enough, and strategically aligned with Mars colonization that he could strongly motivate a mission if the technical path becomes viable. Over a 73-year window, even events that look remote today can become plausible if SpaceX or a successor achieves routine deep-space transport and Musk remains sufficiently healthy and willing to go. That keeps the probability meaningfully above zero, and his repeated public emphasis on Mars makes this more than a vanity bet on a casual dreamer.
Against that, the bar is extremely high. He would need not just a successful Mars mission, but one that includes him personally, at an age when ordinary mortality, medical screening, and mission risk become major constraints. The first crewed Mars missions are likely to be dangerous, delayed, and politically or commercially constrained; even if humans land on Mars in the 2030s or 2040s, there is no guarantee the inaugural or early crews will include Musk. His role as founder, executive, or funder does not translate into actual travel, and he may have more leverage and utility on Earth than as a passenger on a high-risk interplanetary mission.
The market at 11% looks somewhat low to me, though not wildly so. I think the market may be over-weighting the health, age, and mission-risk objections while under-weighting the enormous amount of time remaining and Musk’s unusual willingness to pursue extreme, identity-defining goals. Still, this is not a strong yes: the dominant outcome is that Mars arrives too late, proves too dangerous, or happens without Musk aboard.
Arguments
For
- He has consistently made Mars a central personal and corporate mission, which increases the chance he would try to go.
- If SpaceX or a related effort gets to Mars early, Musk would have more practical access than almost anyone else.
Against
- He must survive and remain fit for decades, which is a major hurdle given the very late deadline implied by the market.
- First-generation Mars flights are likely to be high-risk, and the person best positioned to lead the effort may still not be a likely passenger.
Key drivers
- Musk has both the motive and the means to push for Mars travel if it becomes technically feasible.
- The long time horizon gives many chances for a successful Mars program to emerge, but his personal age and health make late success less likely.
Risk factors
- A human Mars mission may never become routine or safe enough for Musk to join.
- Even if humans go to Mars, Musk may choose not to risk the trip or may be excluded for medical, logistical, or political reasons.
Scenarios
Best case
SpaceX or another Musk-linked program reaches a stable Mars transport capability in time, and Musk personally takes a mission while still healthy enough to travel.
Most likely
Humans eventually visit Mars, but Musk does not personally make the trip before 2099.
Worst case
Human Mars travel is delayed beyond his lifetime, or it begins earlier but Musk never flies due to health, risk, or strategic priorities.

Will OpenAI or Anthropic IPO first?
AI22%MKT95%Edge-73HypedAnthropic now looks better positioned to list first, with OpenAI’s timeline slipping toward 2027 and multiple reports pointing to Anthropic as the earlier mover. I assign only a modest chance that OpenAI is the first of the two to IPO.

How many more Millennium Prize Problems will AI solve in 2026?
AI88%MKT18%Edge+70Hidden GemI think there is a strong chance that no qualifying Millennium Prize Problems will be counted for 2026 under this market’s rules, even though OpenAI’s Navier-Stokes claim makes the broader “AI solved a Millennium Problem” narrative look more plausible. The exclusion of Navier-Stokes from resolution is the key reason the zero-solved outcome still looks likelier than not.

Where will 2026 rank among the hottest years on record?
AI15%MKT76%Edge-61Hyped2026 can still finish as an exceptionally warm year, but it is hard to justify it overtaking every prior year and ending as the single hottest on record. The market price looks too optimistic given the lack of a strong present signal that 2026 will surpass the recent peak years.
