Will Trump resign during his term?
My independent estimate is that Trump resigning before the end of the term is very unlikely, but not impossible. I put the chance materially below the market, around 6%.
Analysis
A presidential resignation is an exceptionally rare event, and for a sitting president it usually requires a severe collapse in health, an overwhelming personal or political crisis, or an extraordinary negotiated exit. Trump’s pattern to date has been the opposite of voluntary withdrawal: he has consistently fought through scandals, investigations, and political adversity rather than conceding defeat or stepping aside. That history makes a deliberate resignation the least likely path absent a truly abrupt and severe catalyst.
The biggest reasons this is not zero are age, health uncertainty, and the possibility of an unforeseen event that changes the calculus quickly. Over a multi-year remaining term, the chance of some major medical or legal development is real, and any event that materially impairs his ability to govern could create pressure for resignation or a negotiated departure. Even so, resignation is a much higher bar than incapacity, impeachment, or political damage; presidents almost never choose it unless the situation is completely untenable.
The current market price implies about a 20% chance, which looks too high relative to the historical base rate and Trump’s own demonstrated behavior under pressure. The market may be overweighting his age, volatility, and the sheer amount of time left in the term, but those factors more often lead to turbulence than to a voluntary resignation. My view is that the more realistic range is low single digits to mid-single digits, with the main upside risk coming from an unforeseen health crisis or a highly unusual political bargain.
Arguments
For
- Trump’s age and the length of the remaining term leave enough time for a serious health or incapacity event.
- His presidency could encounter an extraordinary crisis that makes resignation the least costly option.
Against
- He has shown little inclination to quit under pressure and typically prefers confrontation over withdrawal.
- Presidential resignations are extremely uncommon, so the base rate strongly favors No.
Key drivers
- Voluntary presidential resignations are historically rare and require extreme circumstances.
- Trump has a strong track record of resisting pressure rather than stepping aside.
- Age and health create some nonzero risk over a long remaining horizon.
- A severe, unexpected crisis could force an exit even if resignation itself is atypical.
Risk factors
- A sudden medical event could make resignation more plausible than the historical baseline suggests.
- A major legal or political shock could create pressure for a negotiated departure.
Scenarios
Best case
An unforeseen health crisis, overwhelming scandal, or a severe political collapse makes resignation the path of least resistance, leading to a Yes outcome.
Most likely
The presidency remains contentious but Trump stays in office through the term, with No resolving.
Worst case
Trump serves out the term despite turbulence, and the market’s resignation premium proves too high.

How many Fed rate cuts in 2026?
AI11%MKT89%Edge-78HypedThe market is pricing a high chance that the Fed leaves rates unchanged for all of 2026, and that is broadly plausible if inflation stays sticky and the labor market remains resilient. I would still put some meaningful weight on at least one cut later in the year, so I am slightly less bullish on the No-cuts outcome than the market.

What will be the #2 US Netflix movie this week?
AI23%MKT90%Edge-67HypedThe Whisper Man has a plausible path to the #2 spot if it is a fresh, widely promoted Netflix release with strong first-week viewing, but the absence of clear evidence of breakout demand keeps this below a coin flip. My estimate is slightly under the market price because the title does not obviously signal mass-market dominance against Netflix’s usual stronger contenders.

# of views of Grand Theft Auto VI Extended Look on week 1?
AI32%MKT82%Edge-50HypedThe market is leaning toward the video finishing under 20 million views in its first week, but that threshold is low for a Grand Theft Auto VI upload on Rockstar’s channel. I think the more likely outcome is that it clears 20 million, though not by a huge margin if the video is more of a gameplay deep dive than a mass-appeal trailer.
