When will any company achieve AGI?
I put the chance of a company publicly announcing that it has achieved AGI before Jan. 1, 2027 at 22%. OpenAI’s explicit year-end aspiration makes this plausible, but the market is right to discount the claim because the wording, timing, and self-labeling risks are substantial.
Analysis
The strongest case for Yes is OpenAI’s unusually direct public signaling. Reporting on Sam Altman’s TIME interview indicates the company expects to have an internal system by the end of 2026 that he would personally call AGI, and OpenAI’s own definition is broad enough to make a declaration possible if they believe the system clears their bar. That matters because this event does not require consensus validation or an external benchmark, only a company announcement that it has achieved AGI.
The biggest reason to stay below a majority probability is that this is still a self-authored label with major ambiguity. A company can make rapid progress without choosing to use the exact phrase AGI, especially if the model is impressive but controversial, if the claim invites regulatory or investor scrutiny, or if the system falls short in ways that make the announcement look overstated. Prediction-market commentary already reflects this hesitation, and the contract wording appears strict about requiring an explicit AGI claim rather than softer language like AGI-like or near-AGI.
Compared with the current market price of 12%, my estimate is meaningfully higher because the event is more of a corporate communication decision than a universal scientific breakthrough, and OpenAI has now publicly planted a flag on the timing. Still, 22% is well below 50% because many things must go right at once: technical progress, internal confidence, and a willingness to make a legally and reputationally loaded public statement before the deadline. The market looks a bit pessimistic, but not wildly mispriced.
Arguments
For
- Arguments for Yes: OpenAI is the most plausible issuer of such an announcement, and it has already articulated a year-end AGI target.
- Arguments for Yes: The market question hinges on a public claim, which is easier to satisfy than proving true AGI to outsiders.
Against
- Arguments against Yes: OpenAI may prefer softer wording to avoid backlash, legal exposure, or definitional disputes.
- Arguments against Yes: Even strong progress does not guarantee the company will feel confident enough to publish an AGI declaration before Jan. 1, 2027.
Key drivers
- OpenAI has publicly indicated it expects an internal system by year-end that its CEO would call AGI.
- The resolution depends on a company announcement, not on independent scientific consensus or broad market acceptance.
Risk factors
- The company may achieve a strong model but avoid using the exact AGI label.
- Technical progress could lag, or the claim could be delayed until after the deadline.
Scenarios
Best case
OpenAI or another company makes a clear, unambiguous public announcement before the deadline that it has attained AGI, and the market resolves Yes quickly.
Most likely
OpenAI continues advancing rapidly and may even internally view its system as AGI, but it either does not make a qualifying public announcement in time or chooses wording that fails the contract.
Worst case
A company gets close but uses cautious language, postpones the claim, or frames the milestone as something short of AGI, leading to a No resolution.

What will be the top global Netflix movie this week?
AI62%MKT10%Edge+52Hidden GemThe Whisper Man looks meaningfully favored to finish as the week’s top global Netflix movie because it is already showing up as the leading title in recent Netflix movie roundups and has strong launch-week visibility. Still, the outcome is not close to certain because the official weekly ranking can shift if another title sustains better full-week viewing.

What will be the top US Netflix movie this week?
AI19%MKT68%Edge-49HypedI think The Whisper Man has a meaningful but limited shot at reaching number one, and the market looks a bit too optimistic at 25%. My estimate is 19% Yes because a Netflix title can spike quickly, but it still needs unusually strong broad appeal to beat the field.

US real GDP growth in 2035?
AI63%MKT15%Edge+48Hidden GemMy independent estimate puts the most likely 2035 U.S. real GDP growth outcome in the 1.6% to 2.5% range, with the center of gravity around the BLS-style 2.1% long-run pace. The market appears somewhat too concentrated on very low-growth or near-zero outcomes relative to the available long-run projections.
