Largest Company end of July?
NVIDIA is still the favorite to finish July as the world’s largest company, but the lead over Apple is only mid-single digits and there are several catalysts left before month-end. I’d price Yes at 82%.
Analysis
NVIDIA enters the final stretch of the month in front by a meaningful but not huge margin. Its market cap is about $4.95 trillion versus Apple at about $4.66 trillion, with Alphabet around $4.35 trillion and Microsoft around $2.86 trillion, which puts NVIDIA ahead of Apple by roughly $289 billion or 6.2%. That gap is large enough to matter, but not so large that it is immune to one strong earnings reaction or a sharp sector rotation over the next three weeks.
The recent news flow has been constructive for NVIDIA. The company reported record first-quarter fiscal 2027 revenue of $81.6 billion, guided second-quarter revenue to $91.0 billion plus or minus 2%, raised its quarterly dividend, and authorized another $80 billion of buybacks, which is the kind of update that tends to reinforce a market-cap leadership position rather than weaken it. In addition, Reuters reported that China is planning to let top AI firms buy a limited number of NVIDIA H200 chips, which is not a giant revenue unlock by itself but does support the narrative that demand remains strong and export constraints are still evolving in NVIDIA’s favor.
The main reason this market is not closer to a coin flip is that the current lead is real and the next major catalyst is more likely to be a threat to NVIDIA’s lead than a direct challenge to its absolute size. Apple is expected to report on July 30, Microsoft on July 29, and Alphabet on July 22, so the leaderboard can still move before the July 31 close. Apple is the only company close enough to realistically overtake NVIDIA, and it would probably need an unusually strong earnings reaction, or NVIDIA would need a fairly sharp drop, for the ranking to flip. That makes the No outcome plausible, but still less likely than Yes.
Arguments
For
- Arguments for Yes: NVIDIA already has about a 6.2% market-cap lead over Apple, so the challenger needs a sizable relative move to take first place.
- Arguments for Yes: The latest earnings report was exceptional and the forward guidance remains extremely strong, which supports continued valuation leadership.
- Arguments for Yes: The China H200 headline is a near-term positive for demand sentiment and keeps the market focused on NVIDIA’s monetization power.
Against
- Arguments against Yes: Apple’s July 30 earnings are close enough to the resolution date to create a late-month flip if the report is strong enough.
- Arguments against Yes: NVIDIA’s valuation is already enormous, so an ordinary few-percent pullback could erase much of the current lead quickly.
- Arguments against Yes: The big-cap AI trade has been volatile, and recent broad megacap weakness shows how quickly sentiment can rotate away from semiconductors.
Key drivers
- NVIDIA starts July 10 with the highest market cap among public companies in this race, which gives it the base-case edge.
- Record revenue and strong second-quarter guidance suggest the company is still growing into its valuation rather than stalling.
- Late-July earnings from Apple, Microsoft, and Alphabet create the main window for a leaderboard change before month-end.
- The current AI capex cycle and China access headlines still favor NVIDIA’s narrative more than its peers'.
Risk factors
- Apple could deliver a strong enough earnings beat on July 30 to close the gap or briefly pass NVIDIA.
- A sharp risk-off move in semiconductors would hit NVIDIA harder than slower-growing megacaps.
- Any negative surprise on exports, China policy, or AI spending sentiment could compress NVIDIA’s multiple quickly.
- If NVIDIA falls while Apple rises into month-end, the current 6.2% cushion may not be enough.
Scenarios
Best case
NVIDIA keeps the market’s confidence after the blowout quarter, Apple’s earnings are solid but not transformational, and the stock remains comfortably ahead through the July 31 close.
Most likely
NVIDIA remains the largest company on July 31, but the lead over Apple narrows or widens depending on how the late-July earnings cluster is received.
Worst case
Apple posts a major upside surprise on July 30 while NVIDIA gives back ground on valuation concerns, allowing Apple to briefly or decisively take the top market-cap spot by month-end.

"Evil Dead Burn" Opening Weekend Box Office
AI22%MKT96%Edge-74HypedEvil Dead Burn looks more likely to finish above $20 million than below it, even with Moana in the same frame. The current market is pricing a sub-$20 million opening as almost certain, but the available tracking and franchise comps point to a meaningfully higher opening.

Which agencies will Trump eliminate?
AI99%MKT34%Edge+65Hidden GemUSAID has already been functionally eliminated as an independent agency (shuttered July 1, 2025 and folded into State); I assess a ~99% chance it will be counted as eliminated during Trump’s term.

Which G7 leader will leave next?
AI35%MKT98%Edge-63HypedI assess ~35% chance the UK Prime Minister (Keir Starmer) will be the first G7 leader to leave office; the market at ~98% for that outcome looks severely overstated given scheduled election timing and relative stability of other leaders.
